Sweet Trio of Cards, Honey Bee Stamps

Happy Thursday friends!  I'm on the Honey Bee Stamps blog today with this trio of cards featuring the new WOW! and Honey Bee Stamps collaborative embossing powder trio called The Bee's Knees.  This set includes two glittery powders called BEE True and BEE Kind; and one matte powder called BEE Sweet.  I just love them all and especially how they coordinate with the new 6x6 paper pads and enamel dots!

All three cards use the Sweet Honey Cuts with all three layers.  For this first card I used a piece of paper from the Spring Fling 6x6 paper pad and die cut the bottom layer of the Sweet die cut and a 4-¼" x 1-¾" strip for the bottom of the card.  I die cut the middle layer from some Neenah Solar White paper, smooshed on some Versamark clear ink, and then heat embossed it with BEE Sweet embossing powder.  The final top layer is also die cut from Neenah.  I also used a scrap piece of Neenah and smooshed the Versamark onto it in a strip, embossed with BEE Sweet and cut a strip to use behind the sentiment and above the patterned paper layer.

The sentiment is from the Sweet stamp set and I used one of the Angular Banners Honey Cuts to cut it out in the shape.  I scattered a few of the Spring Fling Enamel Dots around the sentiments.  Because I love sparkle, I used a clear sparkle pen on each of the Sweet die cuts.

This next card is made just like I described for the first one.  The differences are just in the supplies I used!

This card uses the beautiful BEE Kind embossing powder!  I am in love with this sparkle!!!  The paper on this card is from The Bee's Knees 6x6 paper pack.  Now here's another thing I love about Honey Bee Stamps products: you can mix and match sentiments from various sets to say exactly what you need!  The "have a" is from the Happy Birthday stamp set.  The "birthday" is from the Thanks a Bunch set.  I stamped them in Versafine Onyx Black ink and just cut them into the strips and added them with 3D Foam Squares.

To finish it off I stamped a bee from the Busy Bees set in Copic safe ink, colored it, and die cut it with the coordinating Busy Bees Honey Cuts and added it with a 3D Foam Squares.  The enamel dots are the set called The Bee's Knees.

For this final card I used the oh so fun sentiment from the Awesome Sauce stamps.  The sentiments in this set just totally make me smile!

This card features the gorgeous BEE True embossing powder!  The colors in this are so pretty!  The paper is from The Bee's Knees 6x6 paper pad.  I used some of the enamel stickers from The Bee's Knees and Great Outdoors Enamel Dot sticker sets.

These cards really came together quickly and were so fun to make!  This beautiful new embossing powder set is linked below, as well as the other supplies I've used.  Thank you so much for stopping by.  Carol :)

Week 2 of Art Impressions Shaker Card Challenge

Hello friends!  I have a card that I made for inspiration for the Shaker Card Challenge over on Art Impressions blog.

For this card, I've used just one of the images from the Tea Party PopCard set.

I stamped the teapot in Copic safe ink and colored it with the Copics listed below.  This set does come with a die to cut it out, however, it cuts some slits in the middle of the pot for using the PopCard mechanism.  I didn't want those slits, so I fussy cut it out.  I was struggling getting inside the handle, so I just used the die and covered just the handle with my die cutter top plate.  Easy!!

I made the shaker portion using a couple of the Oval Doubled Stitched dies.  First I embossed my white card panel (embossing folder retired) and then cut it down to 4" x 5-¼".  I used the smaller oval die to cut the opening in it.  Here's what the back of it looks like after I added the acetate and foam tape.

I added some little round pearls and some thin flat heart sequins.  I then removed the foam tape backing and added another piece of acetate to seal it all up.  I like to do this as it makes placing this onto my card base so much easier!

For the oval frame, I centered two of the oval dies together with some blue tape.  I cut it a few times and glued them together.  To get the coordinating color I used one of the same blue markers I used on the teapot to color it.  I also colored the edges of a 4-¼" x 5-½" card's edges to coordinate.  I stamped the sentiment and die cut it with a die from the Tag Stitched Die set.  The swirly pearls are from my stash (so glad to use them!)

Thank you so much for stopping by!  We hope you will join in the Shaker Card Challenge!!  Stay crafty!

Watercolor Bicycle, Art Impressions

Happy Monday!  I'm over on the Art Impressions blog today with this sweet card featuring the Watercolor Bicycle Set.

This is the first time I've used this set, so I started out with a scrap piece of watercolor paper to practice my stamping and shading of the bicycle.  I inked up the largest bicycle in the set first with Chocolate, then stamped it off and added Deep Blue.  I stamped it off onto scratch paper again, then stamped it onto my card panel.  I used Ranger Distress Watercolor Cardstock as I really like how bright white it is.  I have all of the watercolor pens listed by brand and number, as well as all the supplies I used at the end of this post.

Here is a list of the steps I took to finish the watercoloring:

  • I lightly pulled the color out of the lines of the stamped image being careful on some of the smaller parts.  (That's when I switched to a No. 2 brush.)  I pulled more out of the two baskets as I wanted them to appear white.
  • I smooshed some Peacock Feathers Distress Ink onto my glass mat and used a No. 2 watercolor brush to color the bicycle.  Go back and add more color for your shading.
  • For the tires and the baskets I mixed some Deep Blue and Chocolate on my mat until it was the shade of gray I wanted.  I used it darker on the tires and a more diluted mix on the baskets.
  • If you have looked at the supply list and wondered why I used all four of the WC Foliage sets, well I didn't plan that!  Haha!  I just had them out and was pulling various stamps to try and there you go.  You can easily do the greenery with one or two sets.  I used a strip of Post-It tape to mask the basket in the back before stamping the foliage in Dark Jade.
  • Next I put some ink from the Sapphire pen onto my mat and mixed in a bit of water for the sky.
  • All the flowers are stamped in Rubine Red.  I used my No. 4 brush to soften.  I used the fine tip of the Brilliant Yellow to add dots of color throughout the flowers.
  • Next I stamped the small grass and pulled out the color.  Then I stamped a few tall grasses and flowers.
  • Don't forget to use a pencil to draw in the spokes on both wheels!

To finish, I cut out the image (make sure it's dry!) with a Rounded Rectangle Double Stitched die.  For the blue layer, I used a pencil and traced around the outside edge of the same die.  I used my trimmer for the straight sides and fussy cut the rounded corners.

I used a 3-D embossing folder and embossed some white paper and cut it down to 4" x 5-¼" and layered it onto the blue top folded A2 card.  The image is popped up with foam tape.  After I stamped the sentiment in Versamark, I added white embossing powder, heat set it, and cut it out with a die from the Tag Stitched Dies set.

Thank you so much for stopping by!  I always appreciate it so much!

Holiday Mansion in The Garden, Art Impressions

Happy Monday!  I'm on the Art Impressions blog with this sweet card using the Holiday Mansion set and the accessories from the HM Garden Set.  Did you see Bonnie Krebs (the owner/designer) on HSN last Tuesday?  This was one of the featured sets and last I checked it's still available there and a sweet deal!!  It was so fun seeing her there!  And, it was super cool seeing my card on display there!!

I have all of my Copic marker I used listed below, as well as a complete supply list.

I love the interactive doors on this sweet mansion!

You're A Rockstar!, Honey Bee Stamps

Hello!  I'm very excited to be sharing my card today for my very first Honey Bee Stamps blog post!

I used several of the new products from Honey Bee's newest release called Ramblin' Man.  This card was so fun to create!  Anytime I can get out my watercolors, texture paste and stencils it's a fun time!

I started out by using one of the stencils from the new Sheet Music stencil set.  I used a Nuvo glue pen to coat the back of the stencil, then let it dry.  It dries tacky and makes the stencil stick to your cardstock without tearing the paper when you remove it.  I have had this Dreamweaver Glossy Black embossing paste forever!!  I'm glad it hasn't dried out at all as it is perfect for creating the lines for the sheet music.  After it dried, I cut two of the sections off and adhered it to a 5-¼" x 4" black panel that is on an A2 folded card.

I stamped the guitar onto Bristol Smooth cardstock with clear embossing ink.  I then added silver embossing powder and heat set it.  I watercolored it with Fine Tec Pearlescent watercolors mixed with a bit of coordinating watercolor from the Altenew watercolor set and used the coordinating Honey Cut to die cut it.  I just love the shimmer and shine!

I stamped and die cut the music notes from the Music Speaks set and die cut them with the coordinating Honey Cuts.  The sentiment from Rockstar Sentiments was stamped with Versafine Onyx Black ink and heat embossed twice with clear embossing powder and cut with the coordinating die.  The little "sparkle" stamp is also embossed with silver.  Everything except those are popped up with foam tape.  I added a few Prism Gem Stickers for a bit of sparkle.

Thank you so much for stopping by!  Carol :)

AECP, Color Your Day

Hello friends!  I've completed another class in the Altenew Academy towards my Level 2 certification!  The class is Color Your Day and the lessons discuss how to add color to your projects in various ways.  Ideas such as using photos for inspiration, your color wheel, and different mediums were just a few of the great ideas.

I decided to challenge myself and work on my no-line coloring.  I pulled out a not yet used set called Frilled Petals.  I stamped the lined flower onto masking paper twice and fussy cut them out.  Then, using my MISTI, I stamped the first flower with some very light ink.  I placed the mask onto it and stamped the bottom left flower.  I added a mask to it and stamped the third flower.  To stamp the leaves I left the masks in place and stamped a couple leaves and moved one of the masks for the next one.

So, this is where I have to say that twice I almost abandoned and trashed this after I colored the purple flower.  I had colored maybe five or six petals and thought it looked awful!  So I pushed the project aside and did something else.  I came back to it the next day thinking, "well if I'm just going to toss it, I may as well just practice."  Funny thing is is that the more I worked on it, the more I liked it.  I also remembered I could use my colored pencils to add in shading in the darkest areas.  That just makes all the difference!  I have those listed below too.

When I was finished coloring the flowers and leaves, I knew I wanted to add just a bit of a shadow around them to give the look of dimension.  After all that work, I was a bit nervous.  So what I did was swatch out the Copics I used onto some scratch paper and try out a few different shades until I was brave enough to proceed!  Haha!

For the sentiment I used the Birthday Builder set and stamped it with black ink.  I cut a flag at one end and layered it with the same purple paper I used for my colored panel.  I added a few Nuvo Glitter Drops in Lilac Crystal for a bit of sparkle.

I'm happy with how this turned out.  While I know I have plenty of room to improve my no-line coloring, I did learn and won't be quite so hesitant to try again!  Thank you so much for stopping by!

Go Nuts!, Art Impressions

Happy Monday!  I'm over on the Art Impressions blog today with a card featuring the adorable Woodland Tree Cubbies set!

All of the Cubbies sets are so cute and versatile!  There are four sentiments included with this set to customize your card for several occasions.

The first photo above shows the card with the little doors closed.  All of the dies are included to cut out the tree with the windows and doors, plus all of the critters and leaves.  This next photo shows the doors open with the critters peaking out!  So cute!  I actually created this card and cards for all of the Critter Cubbies line during pre-production for Ai to use on their display at Creativation.  I say that to offer apologies for not having the marker colors I used here.  I've lost my notes for this one and have searched everywhere!  It's really not hard to color though.  Just grab your favorite browns and greens for the tree and leaves.  Then just pick some fun colors for the doors and house!  When it's all colored, have fun placing the critters here and there, wherever you'd like!

I used Ai's Rectangle A2 Double Stitched dies and the Circle Double Stitched dies to cut out the sentiment and the white card panel.

Thank you so much for stopping by!

Your Friendship is Music To My Ears--Honey Bee Stamps Instagram Hop

Hello friends!  Today is the Honey Bee Stamps Insta-Hop celebrating the new "Ramblin' Man" release!  This release is full of so many wonderful stamps, dies and stencils to make those sometimes challenging masculine cards!

As you can see here, you can still use these new stamps to create a card for that special gal friend!!  This card uses some of my most favorite techniques:  stenciling with embossing paste and ink-resist blending.  So much fun!

To begin, I used one of the four stencils in the Sheet Music Stencil set.  I used Pixie Spray on the back of the stencil.  You just lightly spray the back of the stencil, let it dry for a minute, and then place it onto your cardstock.  When you are done stenciling, it comes right up off your paper without any tearing!  I used a plastic pallet knife to apply the Glossy Black Embossing Paste, then set it aside to dry.  Once it was dry I ink blended Milled Lavender and Dusty Concord Distress Oxide inks over the embossing.  I used a clean, dry towel to remove the excess ink that was on the musical notes.  I love the shine of this black embossing paste!!!

The sentiment is from the Rockstar Sentiments Stamp set and I stamped it in Versafine Onyx Black ink.  I cut it out with one of the Double Stitched Polygon Honey Cuts.  I trimmed the embossed and stenciled piece down to 4" x 5-¼" and adhered it to an A2 card base.  The die cut sentiment is popped up with foam tape.

I stamped some of the musical notes from the Rockstar Sentiments stamp set using Dusty Concord Oxide ink and then die cut them with the coordinating dies.  I used my Spectrum Noir Clear Sparkle pen to add a touch of sparkle to those notes!

Thank you so much for stopping by!  I always so appreciate it!  Be sure to get over to Instagram to see much more fabulous inspiration!  Also, leave comments as there will be prizes!!  You can click the Instagram link in the left column to get started!

You're Never Too Old To..., Art Impressions

You're never too old to do goofy things!  LOL!  That's my motto and I'm sticking to it!  This old guy is in the new stamp set by Art Impressions called Birthday Laugh Lines.  I'm on the Art Impressions blog today to help kick off the new Laugh Lines and Succulent release available in their shop!  Also, we are beginning a new challenge:  Desktop Decor!

I have to be honest and say that this challenge really stumped me for a while!  I did some Pinterest browsing and saw something similar to this notepad holder.  I decided to make a card and notepad holder combo.

I stamped the man with Copic safe ink and colored him with the Copic markers listed below.  I fussy cut it out and added some thin foam tape to the back and Diamond Glaze to the balloon.  While that dried, I worked on the card and the notecard.  For the card,  I stamped the sentiment in Versafine Onyx Black onto an A2 card base. I heat set it with clear embossing powder.  The beige striped paper is sadly retired.  I added a leftover strip of the teal paper with the striped.

For the inside of the card I stamped the Happy Birthday sentiment (one of 10 in this set!).  I inked up and stamped just the balloon the man is holding and drew the string in a little longer.

For the notecard holder I created a file in Cricut Design Space.  If you have a Cricut and Design Space, you can access this file by going to : https://design.cricut.com/#/design/150707000.  I used some heavy double-sided cardstock from my stash.  After I cut the pieces, I applied double-sided adhesive as shown in these photos (click on the photos to enlarge).  I also used some thick chipboard I saved from packaging and cut it to fit the back of the notepad for extra stability.  The double-sided adhesive ensures it all stays put!

Here are the measurements of the notepad holder I made.  If you are creating this by hand, make two of these and score where indicated.

This notepad inside here is just a very inexpensive one I picked up at Walmart.  I thought a To Do list would be fun to go with the sentiment of "doing goofy things"!

By folding back the top cover, the notepad will stand up.

I was wishing I had some thin magnets to hold the flap closed, but I like the wrapped twine.  It's a light tan originally, but I used the chisel end of my E35 Copic to color it to coordinate better.

I hope this inspires you to join in our challenge.  I'd love to see what you do for the Desktop Decor!!  Thank you for stopping by!
