Wishing You An Adventurous Birthday - An Interactive Card

Hello crafty friends! Have you checked out the fabulous new Sunkissed Summer release by Honey Bee Stamps?  I love how there are several items for making cards for the guys! I struggle with masculine cards but not anymore. Today I'm sharing this fun interactive birthday card for our guys that features the Born To Fly and Aviator stamps. This was super easy and fun to make!  If you would like to see the card in action, check out my reel on Instagram!

Still photos don't show you that the two airplanes from the Born To Fly stamp set that I heat embossed in silver actually swing back and forth! I will have a reel posted to my Instagram soon today that will show it in motion.

First I make the background layer by stamping the Aviator background stamp with clear embossing ink onto 80# Neenah. Be sure to treat the cardstock with your anti-static powder first! Then I added white embossing powder and heat set it.

Next I used blender brushes to add Lucky Clover, Cracked Pistachio, and Twisted Citron Distress Oxide inks over the panel. I repeated the inking to get it blended just right. When I finished, I rubbed a clean paper towel over the embossing to remove the excess ink and restore the whiteness of the embossing.

I trimmed the piece to 4" x 5-¼" and glued it to an A2 card base.

Next I die cut two strips of white cardstock with the cloud die from the Horizon Slimline Borders die set. The shorter strip of clouds is about 1" tall and the wider one is 1-½". I glued the wide cloud strips to the card, one at the top and the other at the bottom of the card base.

Before proceeding, smoosh the Lucky Clover Distress Oxide ink pad onto your craft mat. Dilute with some water. Then use a paintbrush to add splatters onto the card base and cloud pieces.

I added foam dots to the back of one of the other cloud strips and adhered it over the other cloud layer at the bottom of the card.

To make the interactive part you will need two pieces of clear nylon string or fishing line, if you have that around the house. As mentioned above, I stamped and silver heat embossed two of the airplanes from the Born To Fly set. I cut them out with the coordinating Born To Fly dies.

To attach the airplanes to the nylon string, I placed the end on the back of the plane and secured it with foam tape pieces. NOTE: DO NOT remove the foam tape backing if you want the airplanes to swing! The smooth backing will help the planes glide over the card surface. Repeat for the other plane.

I adhered the top of the nylon string to the back of the upper cloud strip with foam dots. If you have extra string above the cloud, just trim it with your scissors. Remove the backing of the foam tape on the cloud strip to adhere to the card.

To finish I added a sentiment from the Plane Awesome stamp set that was die cut with the coordinating die.

Of course, you can totally simplify these steps by omitting the string and adhering the airplanes directly to the card. But I think the interactive aspect make for a fun surprise for the recipient!

I hope you have been inspired by my card today! Thank you so much for stopping by. Have a wonderful and crafty day!

Coffee Gift Card Holder for the Guys! | Art Impressions

Hello my friends!  Today I have a gift card holder for our guys!  I've used Art Impressions' Coffee Gift Card Holder set to create my card.  Raise your hand if you are like me and struggle with those masculine cards!! Haha!  When I ask my husband his favorite color, he responds with brown!!  LOL! So, I created this card with that male perspective in mind!

Here are the steps to make this card:
  • Create a top-folding A2 card base from Neenah Solar White card stock.
  • Die cut patterned paper using the largest Rectangle Double Stitched die and adhere to the card base.
  • I stamped a coffee bean background with a stamp from my stash with Gathered Twigs Distress Oxide ink.
  • Die cut the stamped background with the second largest Rectangle Double Stitched die.  Adhere at an angle on the card front.
  • Die cut the Coffee Gift Card Holder cup, insert, and lid from Neenah card stock.  Ink the edges of the cup and top of lid with Ground Espresso Distress Oxide.
  • Die cut the coffee cup sleeve from coordinating patterned paper.  Adhere to the cup.
  • Stamp the sentiment onto the cup with Ground Espresso.  I used my MISTI and stamped it a few times to make it darker.
  • Next, die cut the included scalloped circle die from white card stock and ink the edges with Ground Espresso.  I used a Circle Double Stitched die to cut the patterned paper center and adhered the two together.
  • Add a foam square to the circle and pop it onto the coffee cup sleeve and glue the cup to the card front.

I don't have a gift card to display, but I did stamp the other sentiment group from this set on the insert.  Then just check the boxes that fit your occasion!  How fun for the recipient when he removes the gift card!

To finish, I embellished the card with some twine, a button, and enamel dots from my stash.  This I call "guy bling!"  Haha!

So, what is your guy's favorite color?  Is it brown too?  I hope I've inspired you with this masculine card today--Father's Day is next month!  Thanks so much for stopping by and I hope you have a wonderful, crafty week!

Masculine Winter Birthday Card | Honey Bee Stamps

Hello and happy Thursday my friends!  I hope your holidays have been full of lots of fun so far!  I have to say that I love making Christmas cards so much that I'm always a bit sad when it's time to move on.  However, this masculine winter birthday card I've made sure helps the transition!  I needed a birthday card for my  nephew and Winter Bouquet Honey Cuts was perfect to use for his card!

To begin, I die cut the pinecones and several of the leafy branches from the Winter Bouquet Honey Cuts.  I used green card stock from my stash for the branches and some brown card stock for the pinecones.  I used the Detail Blender Brushes to add some shading on the die cut pieces.  The little brushes are perfect for this!  I used Mowed Lawn and Lucky Clover Distress Ink on the greenery.  For the pinecones, I used Walnut Stain and Ground Espresso.

I used tools from the Heartfelt Creations Flower Shaping Essentials Kit to add dimension to the pinecones and branches.  If you want them to really hold the shape, very lightly spritz the back of the piece with a water mister before you shape them.  For a snowy effect, I diluted some white gouache with water and added splatters on them all with a paint brush.  Then I added some gloss white NUVO Crystal Drops to the pinecones and set them aside to dry.

For the card layers, I added a piece of Tim Holtz Distress Woodgrain Cardstock to a 5-½" x 4-¼" top-folding A2 card base.  I cut a strip of patterned paper from the Home Essentials pack to 5-¼" x 1-½" and adhered it towards the bottom of the woodgrain cardstock.  I cut a thin strip of the brown cardstock and adhered at the top of the patterned paper.

Next I arranged the pinecones and branches and adhered them with liquid glue and foam squares.  The sentiments are from the Thanks A Bunch set.  I stamped happy birthday with Versamark ink and heat embossed it with white embossing powder.  I used the coordinating "happy" Honey Cut to cut it out and trimmed the "birthday" sentiment with my paper trimmer.

I hope you've enjoyed this masculine birthday card and that it has given you some inspiration today.  As always, thank you so much for your kindness and for taking a look.  I wish you all the best in the coming new year and and lots of fun crafty times!  See you next year!

You're Never Too Old To..., Art Impressions

You're never too old to do goofy things!  LOL!  That's my motto and I'm sticking to it!  This old guy is in the new stamp set by Art Impressions called Birthday Laugh Lines.  I'm on the Art Impressions blog today to help kick off the new Laugh Lines and Succulent release available in their shop!  Also, we are beginning a new challenge:  Desktop Decor!

I have to be honest and say that this challenge really stumped me for a while!  I did some Pinterest browsing and saw something similar to this notepad holder.  I decided to make a card and notepad holder combo.

I stamped the man with Copic safe ink and colored him with the Copic markers listed below.  I fussy cut it out and added some thin foam tape to the back and Diamond Glaze to the balloon.  While that dried, I worked on the card and the notecard.  For the card,  I stamped the sentiment in Versafine Onyx Black onto an A2 card base. I heat set it with clear embossing powder.  The beige striped paper is sadly retired.  I added a leftover strip of the teal paper with the striped.

For the inside of the card I stamped the Happy Birthday sentiment (one of 10 in this set!).  I inked up and stamped just the balloon the man is holding and drew the string in a little longer.

For the notecard holder I created a file in Cricut Design Space.  If you have a Cricut and Design Space, you can access this file by going to : https://design.cricut.com/#/design/150707000.  I used some heavy double-sided cardstock from my stash.  After I cut the pieces, I applied double-sided adhesive as shown in these photos (click on the photos to enlarge).  I also used some thick chipboard I saved from packaging and cut it to fit the back of the notepad for extra stability.  The double-sided adhesive ensures it all stays put!

Here are the measurements of the notepad holder I made.  If you are creating this by hand, make two of these and score where indicated.

This notepad inside here is just a very inexpensive one I picked up at Walmart.  I thought a To Do list would be fun to go with the sentiment of "doing goofy things"!

By folding back the top cover, the notepad will stand up.

I was wishing I had some thin magnets to hold the flap closed, but I like the wrapped twine.  It's a light tan originally, but I used the chisel end of my E35 Copic to color it to coordinate better.

I hope this inspires you to join in our challenge.  I'd love to see what you do for the Desktop Decor!!  Thank you for stopping by!

Reeling in the Big One!, Art Impressions

Happy Monday!  I'm over on the Art Impressions' blog today with a masculine card.  I've used the Reel Great Guys set for this card.

This card really came together pretty quick.  I used my MISTI to stamp all the images and sentiment  onto Neenah paper with Amalgam ink.  As you can see I only stamped a portion of the boat image that has the men in it.  I colored everything with my Copic markers, listed below.

I used another sentiment and image from the set for the inside of the card.  It's stamped with Vintage Photo Distress ink.

Thanks so much for stopping by for a look today!  Have a wonderful crafty week!

Love You Mower!, Art Impressions

Hi friends!  It's Monday and that means I'm over on the blog at Art Impressions today.

The set I've used for my two cards is called Born to Ride.  It actually has two other images included that I featured in my card on THIS post.

Both cards are very similar in design, however, the second one has a few more details.  Both were super easy to make too!  I used alcohol markers on both (listed below) to color the images, including the grass.  For this first card I stamped a mask to use a cloud stencil with Distress Oxide ink.

For the second card I paper pieced his shirt from some plaid paper.  I used a light gray marker to add shadows for a bit of dimension.  I die cut a sun and some clouds, popping up a few of the clouds with foam dots.

For me, masculine cards can be a struggle.  This stamp set makes it so easy to make a card for that special guy.  Thank you so much for stopping by!  Have a great crafty week.

AECP, For The Guys

Woohoo!  This is my final card in the Level 1 classes in the Altenew Educator Certification Program.  This class is called For The Guys and can be found in the Altenew Academy.

So, this was quite the challenge for me for two reasons.  First, most of my Altenew stash is flowers, well because I love flowers, and Altenew's are beautiful!  I just don't think a card with flowers is very masculine!  Haha!  Second, my main takeaway from the lessons of this class is that masculine cards are generally CAS and non-fussy.  Well, if you follow my card making at all, you will know that I rarely make a card with those features!!

So, after going through my Altenew stash, I settled on this oh, so cool Cube Builder stencil.  I've only used it a couple of times and thought this just might work!

I taped the stencil over my 80# Neenah Solar White card stock and used a Ranger Distress Blending Brush to add the ink.  The back of the packaging shows you how to use this stencil.  It's very easy and you just ink the first color, lift up the stencil (clean off the ink!) and flip it over, then ink the second color.  Done!

The most fun part is lifting up the stencil after inking the second time!  Magic!!

For the sentiment I used Altenew's Happy Die.  I cut it once in 110# Neenah Solar White.  Instead of searching my card stock stash to find a color to match, I swiped the Lagoon ink pad directly onto a scrap piece of card.  Once that ink was dry, I die cut the Happy again.  I glued the Lagoon colored die offset to the back of the white one.  I also stamped the word 'birthday' from the Birthday Builder stamp set in the Lagoon ink and cut it into a banner shape.

I'm very pleased with how this came out.  I've learned that a card doesn't need to be fussy or sparkly to be quite pretty!

Carol :)

Happy Monday!  I'm on the Art Impressions blog today with this fun card using the Born to Ride set.

My card today features two of the images from this set.  I actually, almost, made a one-layer card!  A rarity for me!  Haha!  I've only been on a motorcycle once in my life and it wasn't in a side car like this.  She looks like she's really enjoying her ride though!

All of the details on how I made this card are HERE on Art Impressions' blog.  Thank you so much for stopping by!!
