Online Card Class, Mask-erade, Another Day 5 Card

I decided to attempt Laura Bassen's technique of heat embossing clear powder on the balloon and star images.  I didn't have a tag die or a stripe stamp. Sometimes you just gotta go with what you've got!

I used my Cricut Explore to cut the cute tag onto striped paper.  (Because this was truly paper, I cut an additional tag from white card stock with Stick It to reinforce the paper.)  The balloon and star stamps are from a cute Simon Says Stamp set and also the word "birthday".  I used Broken China Distress Ink to ink over the striped paper.

I also used the Explore to cut out the "Happy" sentiment.

This technique was fun!  When you wipe the ink off of the embossed areas, it really is like magic!! :)

Online Card Class, Mask-erade, Day 5 Card

Well, I sure thought this technique of Jennifer McGuire's wouldn't, and shouldn't, be too difficult.  Even though I feel like this card is missing/needing something I decided to go with it to keep it all one layer like Jennifer's.

I wonder, is there such a thing as bad and/or low quality embossing powder?  After heating the first layer of clear embossing powder, it had an orange peel, dimpled look.  The overlapping layer's ink soaked in.  So for the 3rd! attempt, I used my embossing pen for a 2nd and sometimes 3rd layer of embossing powder.  I love this technique, but my embossing powder made it very annoying!  LOL!

I used masking paper to mask the little label that holds the sentiment.

Well, that's it.  Not totally happy with it, but it is what it is!  :)

Online Card Class, Mask-erade, Day 4 Card

For the 4th day of the online card class, they showed us how to use freezer paper as a mask.  I decided to CASE Shari Carroll's card (mainly because she's left handed, like me :) and I also think her's is very pretty.

There is definitely a learning curve to the watercoloring so that you don't end up with the hard lines.  Shari's is much smoother.  But I decided to go with what I did anyway.

I used the same colors of Distress Inks as Shari's example: Picked Raspberry,
 Spiced Marmalade, Peacock Feathers, & Mustard Seed

I decided to make my own layering strip using the leftover inks.  At least I was a bit creative on my own!  LOL!

Online Card Class, Mask-erade, Day 3 Card

I didn't plan it, but my card for today kind of combines bits of Jennifer McGuire's and Shari Carroll's techniques.

After stamping and coloring the flower pot image (Heartfelt Creations), I used the Fineline Masking Fluid Pen to mask off the entire image.  After it dried, I used a stencil by Wendy Vecchi called Checkmate for the background.  I sponged Squeezed Lemonade Distress Ink into the checkerboard pattern.  Then I shifted the stencil over one square so that the yellow squares were covered and inked Tumbled Glass Distress Ink.  I really like the two-toned checkerboard it created.

This closeup shows the Glossy Accents I added to the bucket and the clear Wink of Stella I added to the flowers and sunshine.

Online Card Class, Mask-erade, Day 2 Card

I really loved Day 2's videos.  All were awesome!  I decided to use Jennifer McGuire's technique of using a large masked area and filling it with small stamped images.  Using what supplies I have, here's my take.  I ended up having to die cut the butterfly because of a goof.  Oh well!  I really like how it turned out!

My butterfly die is one from Heartfelt Creations.

I used 2 of the 5 Copic markers I own to color the bling from Want2Scrap.

I really enjoyed making this--even though it took me about three tries to get it right.  LOL!  Jennifer McGuire makes it look so easy! :)

Online Card Class, Mask-erade, Day 1 Card

I'm a couple days behind, but I am so loving the videos and learning new ways for stamping by masking!  It's been fun making this first card.  I decided to CASE Debby Hughes' beautiful card.  This is such a simple, yet elegant looking, technique.

Tumbled Glass Distress Ink was used for the masked circle.  

I used Momento Dew Drop inks in Dandelion, Cantaloupe, & Tangelo for the flowers.

I also used some of the new Distress Ink, Fossilized Amber, for the flower centers.  The floral stamps are JustRite's Romantic Wild Roses.  I really love this set!  The sentiment is from Heartfelt Creations.
